More Target On Location, Weekend Plans

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

We finished up another week of Target today. The shoot was at a very large house in Kenwood, Minneapolis. It amazes me that people live in houses that huge.

There are more of Earl’s great images on Target.com, and the location ones should be up soon.

Tomorrow, Maria and I have an ultrasound (I’ll post images) and the Ai grad show, and this weekend I will be attending the Via Affirmativa gathering.

I love this job

Friday, June 8th, 2007

This week I worked for Chris Sheehan for the second time. Chris is a great guy to chat with, which makes for a pleasant working environment. He’s got a great studio, and he should because it’s available for rent. Today at 4pm he pulled a guitar out of the back and played until 4:30pm when he declared that it was time to go home. I have such a great job… maybe it shouldn’t even be called a job.

A Few Busy Days

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

I don’t like combining multiple subjects into posts, but I’ve been too busy to be posting every day, so this post will be a compilation.

I’ve been friends with Dominic Schomberg for several years now, and I’ve always been intrigued with his parents’ family business. Last Thursday I drove down to Barre, WI, outside of La Crosse, to photograph the Schombergs’ Rottweiler farm. Mr. Schomberg has been a purebred hog breeder for a long time, so he knows what he’s doing.

This is Bart; he’s my favorite. He lives with one of the Schomberg kids:

It was just about the most perfect day to be shooting without strobes. The light was soft but still direct and there were puffy clouds everywhere. I’ll post more about the Schombergs when I finish the website I am working on for them.

Then, yesterday, my good friend Tim Chamberlain got married to Tara Bordewyk. I was one of the groomsmen. I brought my camera and took a few. Tim rented a Mustang for the wedding day:

Today was mostly slow, but we watched Blue, my parents’ dog, for a few hours. We took her on a walk to the park, and the moment we let her run she found a giant mud hole. She just wanted to cool off:

Last Week for Target

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

More work with Earl Kendall for Target last week, except this time it was on location. We did two days at a loft in Minneapolis, and two days at a McMansion in Eden Prairie. It was a tiring week; I logged 55.5 hours in 5 days. Just because I can, here is a view of Minneapolis from the balcony of the 5th floor, $0.5 million dollar loft on Washington, via camera-phone:

Anybody else notice a lot of 5’s?

Retouching Site

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

A small addition to my website: here.

To use the page, hover over the thumbnails to change them and click the thumbnails to toggle between the original and the retouched version. I might need to put instructions on the site. I just needed a way to show employers that I can use Photoshop.

Work Update

Monday, May 14th, 2007

I’ve been working at Fox Studio since last week, and I’ve got more with Earl Kendall next week. I heard a rumor that it has turned into a location shoot, so that should be fun. Also, I was booked for a two and a half long shoot in July today. So far, freelancing has been slow to start, but I am not without hope.

Edit: two and a half long shoot in July cancelled.

Target.com

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

The most recent shoot I have been assisting on is for Target.com. Yes, they are spending lots of money on photography specifically for the web. It rotates every week or so, and you can find it in the “Home”, “Bed + Bath”, “Kitchen”, and “Furniture” sections of the main website and in the “Design Inspiration” section of the previously listed sub-pages. Sometimes it pops up on the main page too (not at the moment that I write this, though).

Earl Kendall is the photographer.

I also did a lot of showing my book to get assisting work.
