Happy Holidays?

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

It is my opinion that saying “Happy Holidays” is not a more respectful greeting. I think it is weak to be so general. Why can’t each person wish well to others in whatever “language” they speak? All the holidays now are happy times, why should it be bad to say “Merry Christmas”?

I have a Jewish friend for whom I append “Happy Hanukkah” and whenever I have had friends of other religions I wish them a happy whatever. I even had a Jehovah Witness friend once to whom I never wished anything (haha, kidding).

Besides most people I have known who are affected by political correctness, don’t care. They understand when insult is intended (which would be wrong).

In fact, not that anyone cares because I am white, male, and middle class (silly reason), but I am slighly offended by people who wish me Happy Holidays. I would much rather have them wish me a Happy Whatever-they-celebrate. At least that way, people can learn more about each other.

I haven’t even been home enough to do laundry. Over break maybe I’ll catch up with everything; I’m done in two days!

Update: three freelance photo jobs in the works. 1. portraits for a small publication 2. possible CD cover, 3. wedding.
