ethical dilemma
Friday, April 28th, 2006A hypothetical question in my ethics class today asked: would you intervene with a newly discovered, isolated culture that sacrfices infants and young children to quiet a volcano? Everyone in the class said ‘no’ (except me) because intervention would ruin the culture.
Sick. Why do people today believe that collective culture is more important than individual life? I’m no imperialist, I just value life in itself! To quote a slightly influential American:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
