New Computer

Monday, April 30th, 2007

This weekend I ordered my first Apple computer (as a graduation gift). It took me a while to decide whether to get a tower or a laptop, but I finally chose a MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz and a 2GB RAM upgrade from Other World Computing. I’ll be purchasing some form of the Adobe Creative Suite 3 and Capture One Pro soon.

Death

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

I miss my grandma. She died a few years ago at this time of the year. I think about her mashed potatoes and meatballs and her characteristic grandma-perfume. She always drank her coffee black and piping hot, and she always said, “Ahhh” after the first sip. We used to go to breakfast and share a mushroom omelette at The Original Pancake House. We played her favorite card game, Hand and Foot. I tried to spend time with her whenever I could because I knew that she wouldn’t be around forever.

Maria’s grandpa died last Friday; we’re leaving this afternoon for Mountain Lake, Minnesota to attend the visitation and funeral. I didn’t know him very well, but death always makes me think of life.

It’s a terrible feeling to be unable to do something that one was once able to do but no longer can. Three weeks have passed since I graduated and lost my equipment rental and studio use privileges, and it has been difficult to not be shooting. I have had many ideas and no way to express them properly. I feel stuffed.

The Post Office On Tax Day

We should just call it “National Stand In Line Day”.

Commercial artists must conform (to some degree); fine artists must not conform.

Target.com

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

The most recent shoot I have been assisting on is for Target.com. Yes, they are spending lots of money on photography specifically for the web. It rotates every week or so, and you can find it in the “Home”, “Bed + Bath”, “Kitchen”, and “Furniture” sections of the main website and in the “Design Inspiration” section of the previously listed sub-pages. Sometimes it pops up on the main page too (not at the moment that I write this, though).

Earl Kendall is the photographer.

Is it possible to be down-to-earth and realistic while still having lofty goals and dreams?

The Real World

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Yesterday, while it was nothing new, was my first day in the “real world.” I was on my feet almost the entire day, and by the end of the day all I wanted to do was sleep.
